City to host final community meeting on the future of Oʻahu’s wastewater and storm water systems

HONOLULU– The City and County of Honolulu Department of Environmental Services (ENV) is urging the public to attend the final Integrated Plan community meeting this Thursday, September 10 to share their thoughts and concerns on the city’s wastewater and storm water infrastructure.

The meeting will explain what the Integrated Plan is and why it matters. The results from the recent Oʻahu Clean Water Survey will also be discussed, along with next steps as the plan moves forward. ENV is holding the meeting before key decisions are made so that residents can provide input. With limited resources, the City has to prioritize and residents’ feedback will help determine which projects are funded first.

The impacts from Hurricane Lowell are a timely reminder of why this planning matters. As Oʻahu experiences more frequent and intense storms, a resilient wastewater and storm water system is essential to protect homes and businesses.

“Hurricane Lowell is the latest reminder that our climate is changing and our infrastructure needs to keep pace,” ENV Director Roger Babcock said. “This is your opportunity to make your voices heard. I encourage everyone to join us and share their thoughts and concerns to help us shape how we invest in a stronger more resilient Oʻahu.”
