Hawaiian Electric East Molokaʻi Resiliency Project: Reminder of scheduled work Oct. 3 to 8
Hawaiian Electric is reminding you of the upcoming East Molokaʻi resiliency work in an effort to reduce wildfire risk and strengthen the reliability and resilience of the electrical system on Molokaʻi.
To safely complete this work, planned outages are scheduled in the project area along and near Kamehameha V Highway from Saturday, Oct. 3 through Thursday, Oct. 8, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
A customer hub will be open at Mana’e Goods & Grindz each day of the outage, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vouchers for 2 small bags of ice will be available at this hub, limit 1 voucher per impacted household per outage day. Vouchers can be redeemed at Mana’e Goods & Grindz, Friendly Market, or Misaki’s.
Should additional space be needed to accommodate more customers, a second nearby site with cell phone charging and internet service is being assessed and will be determined as needed.
As a reminder, fda.gov offers food storage preparation tips during an outage, including
- Freeze containers of water for ice to help keep food cold in the freezer, refrigerator, or coolers.
- Freeze refrigerated items such as leftovers, milk, and fresh meat and poultry that you may not need immediately.
- Keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to maintain the cold temperature. A full freezer will keep the temperature for approximately 48 hours (24 hours if it is half full) if the door remains closed.
- Have coolers on hand with ice to keep refrigerated food cold.
Hawaiian Electric invites community members to receive an update on the progress of the work, ask questions, and share feedback.
